Regular Faculty work under the direction of their respective Associate Dean/Division Dean and are responsible for meeting all scheduled classes/labs/clinics and providing instruction in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the College and the Department Chair's approved course outline. Regular Faculty are also responsible for using teaching methods and media designed to reach students of varying educational and experiential backgrounds to allow each student the opportunity to master the objectives of the course.

Regular Faculty are required to serve a provisional period from the date of employment until the completion of employment under three consecutive full year regular contracts. 

The Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Faculty/Program Coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination, organization, planning, and instruction of the CNA Certificate Program which includes theory, lab, clinical, instructional related duties and responsibilities in accordance with the philosophy, mission, policies and procedures of the college, the nursing program, and the State Board of Nursing (SBON).

May be required to travel between multiple campuses and community locations to support department needs. 

The required teaching schedule is August to May. The required pay schedule is September to August. 

Minimum Qualifications

    • Completed bachelor’s degree in nursing.
    • Current Colorado RN license in good standing without restrictions.
    • Two years of clinical nursing experience.
    • Possess proficiency in instructional methodology, curriculum design and program planning.
    • Must possess or be eligible to obtain a Colorado Career & Technical Education Teaching Credential Colorado State Credentialing.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with underrepresented populations in successful efforts to close the achievement gap.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Community college or hospital teaching experience.
  • Experience in program assessment.
  • Experience with program accreditation.

Salary is $55,200.00 annual gross (pro-rated according to start date). For full consideration, all application materials must be received by 4:00 p.m. on September 27, 2022. This position will remain posted until filled.

Program Coordination - Ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of the program to include:

  • Budget requests for Perkins, General Fund and initial and ongoing program needs in relation to space, classroom, lab, simulation, and clinical needs.
  • State Board of Nursing Documentation for timeline and provision of documentation with compliance maintenance and continuing assessment of program.
  • Implement, maintain, and evaluate admission policies, website, advisory board, and student recruitment process according to rules governed by and SBON.
  • Collaboration with Clinical Coordinator with site development, contract, and signed commitments.
  • Collaborate with Curriculum and Instructional Practices Committee (CIP) for course approval process and updates.
  • Work with FLAC, Administrative supports and Associate Dean of Nursing with workload development, scheduling of courses.
  • Cross department coordination with other nursing chairs, program coordinators, clinical coordinators, administrative support, and the Associate Dean of Nursing with course scheduling, securing and supervising instructors, and clinical scheduling.

Teaching - Initial and ongoing planning and delivery of appropriate classroom, laboratory, and clinical curriculum.

  • Maintains curriculum, instructional materials, and evaluation tools; reviews and updates course outlines, textbooks, and nursing courses; assists with the preparation of course proposals, curriculum updates and the construction of degree/certificate programs.
  • Applies and maintains standards of quality operating methods, processes, systems, and procedures; implements changes as necessary to maintains a successful CNA certificate program; integrates knowledge of industry and serves on college committees as assigned needs and professional training to continuously improve program quality.
  • Manages and teaches assigned nursing courses and maintains written instructional standards; facilitates instruction using alternative delivery methods as needed; informs students in writing of instructional standards; posts and maintains weekly office hours; participates in the assessment of student learning outcomes; establishes, maintains, and submits accurate student and instructional records in a timely manner.

General Duties

  • Develop and disseminate all course material to include curriculum, syllabi, handbooks, and training materials, ensuring continuity of instruction
  • Provide the safe keeping and system of permanent records and reports essential to the operation of the program for a minimum of three years which shall include but not be limited to the following
      • A skills checklist that demonstrates the satisfactory performance of all required skills for each student
      • Student records such as attendance, test scores and clinical compliance documents
      • Submission of documentation to SBON within 30 days of student completion of final course
      • Instructor approval report to SBON
  • Serve as primary point of contact and resource for the department.
  • Works in conjunction with High School Programs and the NUA High School Program Coordinator to maintain a dynamic relationship between Pikes Peak State College and local school districts
  • Participate in division meetings, department meetings, program advisory committee meetings, and college-wide events.
  • Maintain technical knowledge in the field through active participation in professional development organizations and events.
  • The Program Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of the program including organization, administration, accreditation, 5 Year Program Review, Systematic plan, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the program.
  • Student advising and support and maintenance of CNA information sessions
  • Clinical site visits, hiring, supervision, and evaluation of instructors

  • Informs students in writing, of the objectives of the course content.
  • Uses supplemental resources in addition to textbook or other course materials.
  • Participate in all aspects of department and/or college level assessment of student learning outcomes in general education and career/technical courses and programs as required.

Record keeping and Instructional Management

  • Keep scheduled office hours, including providing regular student office hours.
  • Meets classes as scheduled for prescribed time. 
  • Submits required reports and documents.
  • Attends required Divisional meetings.  

Professionalism 

  • Seeks to maintain a high quality of instruction by remaining current on discipline specific and pedagogical issues.

  • Assist with student advising and student registration.
  • Maintain a program advisory committee, as appropriate.
  • Participate in professional development activities as requested by the dean.
  • Assist with program reviews as required by appropriate agencies, e.g., NCA.

Professional Contributions 

  • Serve on college discipline, department, and community committees and task forces on behalf of the college.
  • Assist with Divisional activities as requested by the dean.
  • Assist with student recruitment as appropriate.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of alternative modes of instructional delivery, e.g., Internet or ITV, as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the dean, the Vice President for Instructional Services and/or the College President.
