Hospitality Faculty/Department Chair

Regular Faculty work under the direction of their respective Associate Dean/Division Dean and are responsible for meeting all scheduled classes/labs/clinics and providing instruction in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the College and the Department Chair's approved course outline. Regular Faculty are also responsible for using teaching methods and media designed to reach students of varying educational and experiential backgrounds to allow each student the opportunity to master the objectives of the course.
This position will serve as Department Chair. The Department Chair shall work under the direction of the Division Dean/Associate Deans and shall assist by providing leadership in curriculum and instruction, and by supervising adjunct instructors and programs as assigned by the Dean. The Department Chair is responsible for all aspects of the program including organization, administration, accreditation, continuous review, planning, development and general effectiveness of the program. Department Chairs are members of the regular faculty of the college and as such, teaching remains the primary responsibility.
The required teaching schedule is January to May. The required pay schedule is January to August. Beginning fall semester 2020, the required teaching schedule will be August to May and the required pay schedule will be September to August.
- Bachelor degree in Hospitality Management, or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with 18-20 hospitality graduate credits
- Teaching or training experience with adult learners
- Five years industry experience in the hospitality field
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Hospitality Management, or similar related degree
- Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate, college-level courses in hospitality studies
- Two years of full-time teaching experience at the community college or post-secondary level
- Demonstrated ability and/or experience with educational or industry technology systems (e.g., Desire2Learn, Blackboard, multimedia, computer software applications, etc.)
- Demonstrated knowledge of the mission and role of the community college and its focus on student success and meeting community needs
- Demonstrated experience and ability to work successfully with people of diverse backgrounds, (e.g., faculty, administrative staff, students, minorities, economically disadvantaged students, learning disabled students, non-traditional students, college prep students, etc.)
- Experience with curriculum development

Record keeping and Instructional Management
- Keep scheduled office hours, including providing regular student office hours.
- Meets classes as scheduled for prescribed time.
- Submits required reports and documents.
- Attends required Divisional meetings.
- Seeks to maintain a high quality of instruction by remaining current on discipline specific and pedagogical issues.

Promoting Division/College Quality of Instruction
- Assist, as requested, with the development of the term class schedule and the college catalog.
- Assist with curriculum review, revision, development and implementation within the department.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of course outlines and course syllabi.
- Assist in textbook selection and adoption.
- Assist with student advising and student registration.
- Maintain a program advisory committee, as appropriate.
- Participate in professional development activities as requested by the dean.
- Assist with program reviews as required by appropriate agencies, e.g., NCA.
- Serve on college discipline, department, and community committees and task forces on behalf of the college.
- Assist with Divisional activities as requested by the dean.
- Assist with student recruitment as appropriate.
- Assist with the development and implementation of alternative modes of instructional delivery, e.g., Internet or ITV, as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the dean, the Vice President for Instructional Services and/or the College President.
- Cultural competence and commitment to helping to close the student equity gap at our institution.
- Demonstrate an understanding of evidence-based, inclusive teaching strategies and curriculum development for the classroom environment.
- Demonstrates ability to plan, organize, deliver, and evaluate teaching activities and curriculum.
