This position exists to provide a high quality nurturing environment for a diverse population of children ages six weeks to five years.  This position supports the Early Childhood Lead Teacher in the classroom by supervising and implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum activities for young children.  This position also exists to ensure compliance with State licensing requirements and NAEYC Accreditation standards and criteria.

This position is 0.75 FTE and is required to work 195 days paid over a 12-month period.  This position is located at the Rampart Campus.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Colorado Department of Human Services Early Childhood Teacher qualifications including both the degree or course and experience requirements.
  • Ability to pass a Colorado and Federal criminal background check and a central registry search as required by state child care licensing regulations;
  • Medical examination including chest x-ray or tuberculin test as required by CO child care licensing and NAEYC criteria;
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain  as required by CO child care licensing and/or NAEYC Accreditation

Preferred Qualifications

Early Childhood Education Associate of Applied Science Degree and Colorado Department of Human Services Early Childhood Teacher qualifications including both the degree or course and experience requirements.


Early Childhood Education Associate of Arts Degree with a minimum of 30 hours of ECE credits and Colorado Department of Human Services Early Childhood Teacher qualifications including both the degree or course and experience requirements.


Associate of General Studies degree with a minimum of 30 hours of ECE credits and Colorado Department of Human Services Early Childhood Teacher qualifications including both the degree or course and experience requirements.

Salary is $14.21 per hour.  Applications accepted until position is filled.

Essential Functions 

  • Supervises and interacts with children in a classroom setting. Plans, implements and documents developmentally appropriate activities and curriculum to support children’s development and learning in all domains including cognitive, social emotional, physical and language. Aligns teaching methods, classroom practices, guidance techniques and indoor and outdoor environment with CDC philosophy and NAEYC standards and criteria.
  • Observes and records children’s behavior and development. Enters information into the selected CDC assessment program (TSG) meeting set deadlines. Reports any concerns about children to supervisor. Shares information with parents at regularly held parent teacher conferences, other conferences as needed and on a daily basis as appropriate using verbal and written communication.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with parents, children, staff, and community by demonstrating willingness to give and receive constructive feedback, effectively resolving issues, being accessible to others and contributing to positive morale and motivation. 
  • Develops positive relationships with parents. Communicates effectively with parents about children’s development and classroom experiences by discussions at arrival and departure times, written communication, telephone calls and at parent/teacher conferences. 
  • Trains, supervises and evaluates student support staff and practicum students in CDC program policies and procedures. 
  • Mentors and evaluates practicum students in their growth as Early Childhood professionals working collaboratively with the ECE faculty.

General Duties, Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Follows all CDC policies and procedures, Colorado Child Care Licensing Rules and Regulations and National Association for the Education of Young Children accreditation standards and criteria;
  • Meets regularly with the CDC Curriculum Specialist and implements program improvements as needed;
  • Meets regularly with the ECE Mentor Teacher Coach and implements changes in practice with practicum students as needed; 
  • Documents required information for the food program, health and safety checklists, accident and incident reports, attendance records, ID notes and notes to parents;
  • Provides a safe classroom and outdoor learning environment for children in compliance with all regulatory agencies by: monitoring and inspecting indoor and outdoor equipment, following health and safety guidelines and checklists, implementing cleaning protocols and schedules, recommending necessary supplies and equipment to the Coordinator;
  • Participates in and supervises assigned classroom staff and students in meal service to children to ensure compliance with USDA CACFP and CDC policies and procedures.
  • Informs and enforces health and safety rules with parents, children, practicum students and support staff;
  • Communicates classroom issues to supervisor. 
  • Plans, implements and participates in CDC parent and family activities;
  • Attends required staff meetings, training, and special events;
  • Registers in Colorado Shines Professional Development Information System and maintains a current credential;
  • Participates in ongoing professional development by attending workshops, in-service meetings, conferences, PDIS on-line training and college classes;
  • Completes special projects as assigned;
  • Assumes duties of the Lead Teacher as needed and assigned.
